It’s an unusually dark Christmas at the movies.
The films greeting audiences on Dec. 25 run the gamut from American Sniper, a drama about a soldier whose life is upended by the brutality of war, to Unbroken — yep, a historical drama about a soldier whose life is upended by the brutality of war. In between, there are movies about gender bias in art and capitalism’s ill effects on the European working class. Even the fairy-tale musical is dark! Fitting the chilliest time of the year, perhaps, here are moviegoers’ options for new films opening Christmas Day.
